Speaker for Game Boy Advance / Color / Pocket

This product had some extra long wire wires to accommodate different gameboy versions. I had to cut the wires to better fit my GBA. Soldering and desoldering is a must. Now I have a GBA ready to gift that LOOKS and SOUNDS great!

I used these tools to make easy work of my restoration project.
-wire cutter
-wire stripper
-Precision screwdriver set
-soldering iron
-desoldering pump
-kapton tape
-soldering resin

Not much to say. Good speaker, louder than the stock one. Perfect fit and adhesive ring that holds it secure. It costs a lot more than the generic ones on eBay, but its worth it. Glad I spent the extra cash!

Sounds worse than the original one with way less volume. Not sure if I got a back one but retro modding doesn’t offer refunds so I’m not willing to try again.
When installed with the amp they reccomend it was horrid and has so much loud scratching feedback that it was unusable and I had to just remove it. Again, no refunds offered.
Wouldn’t recommend this speaker over OEM, just take out the OEM and clean it.

Bought this speaker to replace the broken one in my GBC. Once you figure out how it fits in the housing differently than the original, you're good to cut the wires and solder to the board. Works great!

I put it into a Game Boy Pocket; the original speaker was very busted. The new one sounds great! Straight onto the original board, so I think it's about the same volume as the original. Compared to an OEM, I think it has a bit more clarity, but can't confirm.

All in all, very pleased with it.

It functions perfectly and is as described. My only little gripe is that the cables that it is attached to were long and I didn't have the proper tool to shorten it. A suggestion is to have it cut to a smaller, proper length for anyone purchasing them.

My original Gameboy Color speaker has gone a little quieter over the years. It wasn’t gone and I decided to replace it anyways. It worked, great. However for a minor inconvenience. I could tell the difference. It sounded great but was not 100% authentic sounding. I decided to swap them back. I have a GBA that I know it will work better for anyways. Final thoughts, great replacement if you don’t have the ear.

Clean clear and crisp. GBA sound has always been a little fuzzy and this really helps cleaning it up.

Soldering all the wires was a bit of a hassle as well as knowing where to route them since there are no clear instructions but once you get past that, it works exactly as described, though the noise is a bit more prominent too.

This is a great replacement speaker, better than OEM, in sound and looks, a must if you are also doing a DAC upgrade or a clear shell. I ended up testing the original speaker and this one before replacement with a DAC. The original ends up sounding very tinny, crackles and distorts at louder volumes, where as the replacement handles the volume much better.

The only issue I had was with the wires and not the speaker. The wires are brittle in comparison to other types of wire I have used previously. With needing to route the speaker to the other side of the board, how tight the fit/bend is, and if you need to disassemble again for any reason you may run into the same issue that I did. 1 of the wires broke off right at the solder point on the DAC, once during initial install and once when I had to disassemble because I had forgotten the clear plastic power led piece. Not a big deal but the DAC I had said to insulate it with the provided shrink tube. I ended up cutting off the shrink tube, desoldering the piece of broken wire from the pad, resolder and then used some shrink tube I already had as a replacement.

If I ever order another one of these speakers, which is likely, I will be replacing the wires immediately as to alleviate any previous headaches.

TLDR; Great speaker, not so great wires.

Speaker fit perfectly into my Gameboy advance shell without any trimming involved.

I ordered the IPS screen and the speaker for my Gameboy Advance and it is great! Screen is super clear and the new speaker is super loud which is excatly what I wanted. I loved the fact that i can make the screen brighter as needed. That was a nice feature.

This is a very good quality speaker for modding your GBA

Signal to noise ratio ist defiantly better with this speaker but you can still here some noise, when there are no Game Sounds. But this is probably related to the amplifier circuit of the GameBoy Color.
My impression is that the audio is clearer compared with the original speaker.

Manual was lacking but after some back and forth between the team and me some clarification was added

I bought this to try if I could get better sounds on my GameBoy Color. But while the sound is crispier and louder it also make all GameBoy Color noises louder, impacting in the experience overall. For GameBoy Advance at least we have here in Retro Modding some mods that reduces the noise that may help to improve this in case if you decide to buy this. I could give a try if there were one for GameBoy Color.
