If you're looking for a crisp, full-sized backlit LCD for your Game Boy, look no further than this IPS LCD kit. This kit contains everything required to give your old DMG a bright new display. In addition, the viewing area is the same size as the stock display, meaning no special lens is required!

The DIY kit will provide you with all that you need to install this LCD, and will require some soldering for the Game Boy speaker(not included).

Notes

This is an aftermarket product and may not feel identical to its genuine counterpart
Some minor shell modification is required, involving cutting the screw posts on the interior front of the shell. This trimming can be accomplished with a pair of side cutters.
On-screen battery display is a rough estimate, and may not be accurate

Warning

We strongly recommend testing the display before installing it in your console. Please follow our Display Testing Guide to confirm the kit is working before the adhesive is secured, the display protection sheet removed, or any non-critical soldering to the ribbon or driver PCB. We are unable to accept returns or replacements on kits that have been installed in a console. Individual replacement parts may be available in the "Included" section above.
The ribbon is very fragile, be sure to handle it carefully to avoid damage.
Too much pressure can permanently damage the display, do not force the shell closed around the LCD. Ensure the shell is properly trimmed for the display before attempting to install it.

My DMG has been given new life

I honestly never thought that I would want to play games on my original Game Boy again. With this installed, I can't imagine playing them any other way. Installation was easy. Soldering was reasonable even though I haven't soldered in ~7 years. The color palettes are a nice touch, too. All-in all this was a great kit and I'm happy with the results.

Nice screen, easy to install

Very nice customizeable palette option. Easy to install, no custom screen protector needed and minimal case trimming. Some of the color settings are not very precise and it can be hard to dial colors in. The screen has a little ghosting and some horizontal artifacts can be seen with some color settings especially lower saturation. But overall it's a million times better than an original backlit screen and way, way easier to install. Haven't encountered any annoying button issues. Overall very pleased with the purchase.

Awesome Replacement!

This is a really nice kit that is easy to install. Don’t pay a ton of money for Gameboy DMG. Find one on the cheap that has a broken screen and buy this kit. The 9 year old version of myself would have lost his mind to have a GB with a backlit LCD screen in 1990. Fast shipping and well packaged!

Good kit, easy to install, although viewing angles get a bit wonky and the color desaturates when looking at the screen at extreme angles

It's okay.

Not bad if you are wanting to use an original size lens. I really don't like the black border around the display though, it's too big. It's also lacking a bunch of features that the V4 had. In my opinion the V4 is far superior if you don't mind using a lens with a larger window. It does however work great!

Excellent Screen

Everything was incredibly simple to put in. The only hard part was the soldering and cutting the posts on the shell. (Don't forget to cut the place for the contrast wheel)

This kit is great! Works just as it's says it does. Screen is a lot better the factory one, it's night and day difference. I love all the color options and being able to fine tune them if needed. If your on the fence about this kit.......just buy it, you won't be disappointed.

Fantastic! New IPS v5 screen for my original Game Boy works just as advertised! My original screen broke (showed horizontal lines) since 1994. Swapping the original for the IPS v5 was all I had to do, and now it works even better than when I got the Game Boy brand new in 1991!
